Optimists say “We’ll be back to school in May.”
Pessimists say “The world is over. Everyone will be homeschooling from now on.”
Realists say “I will give the best online experience to my kids right now. This sucks, but we’ll make the best of it. I hope we return someday, but I need to make concurrent plans for when we might return and an extended online experience far into next year.”
We’re in a marathon and not a sprint.
What I explained above is what Jim Collins calls “The Stockdale Paradox,” a useful perspective to have right now to get through tough times.
Never give up the optimism that things will get better, but don’t ignore the challenging reality we all are experiencing.
If you are looking for a community of optimists/realists, we’d love for you to connect with us.
